Tennis Injury Specialists
MSO Physio and it’s predecessors have been located within Sutton Tennis Academy for at least 10 years.
Sutton Tennis Academy is a high performance tennis centre, part funded by the LTA and Sport England, running junior and adult elite performance squads as well as academy and scholarship tennis programmes. The main age group at the academy is 12-24 but the team at MSO Physio regularly see older and younger tennis players due the centre and clinic’s reputation.
As a result of this relationship Nick Wirth and his multi-disciplinary team have been able to develop a speciality in the diagnosis, treatment and management of tennis (racket sport) related injuries.
These can range from simple muscular strains to complex rehabilitation following major injury such as stress fracture of the lumbar spine (pars defect). Tennis related injuries cover almost every part of the body due to the demands of the sport, including but more rarely ‘tennis elbow’!
Tennis is a demanding sport and involves every aspect of fitness from hand-eye co-ordination to strength, agility and speed. The tennis athlete, at all levels, subjects their body to extreme pressures and strains and therefore it is not uncommon from time to time, that breakdown and injury occur.
The team at MSO Physio focus on early intervention for these injuries and accurate diagnosis, leading to the correct management strategy and not just short-term, but long-term improvement and on prevention of future similar injuries.
Included in the tennis programmes for all ages is the injury prevention screening. This comprehensive head-to-toe assessment enables the physio to identify potential problems and to prescribe prehabilitation exercises and therefore help to minimise any risk of developing injury that can lead to time off court (the tennis player’s pet hate!).
This assessment is applicable to all individuals of all ages, levels and ability. It is a key factor in the longevity of an individuals ability to either maintain their ability to perform or to identify and deal with issues standing in the way of improvement.
MSO Physio has excellent links with local sports medicine consultants and many orthopaedic surgeons ensuring rapid access to the best resources available for further investigation and treatment, if required. We can also refer directly for scans and imaging if required to ensure accurate diagnosis and therefore management of your problem.
With now ten years experience of dealing with tennis players on a week in week out basis Nick and his team have probably seen your injury before.
