MSO Physio is pleased to provide Clinical Pilates in Sutton and Woking. Clinical Pilates is simply Pilates style exercises to help improve core stability in a clinical population, such as those with back pain and neck pain or as part of recovery from injury and surgery.
Our team of physiotherapists in Sutton and Woking includes experts in ante and post-natal pain and other conditions where Clinical Pilates and core stability can be of great benefit. Traditional Pilates exercises are broken down and simplified for the injured population and used as part of a wider rehabilitation and treatment plan for many injuries and conditions.
Clinical Pilates and core stability training is suitable for all ages and is tailored to the needs of the individual. At our Sutton clinic we have a dedicated Clinical Pilates and core stability studio and our physiotherapists are highly skilled in the provision of Pilates in a clinical setting. Clinical Pilates includes matwork, small equipment and large equipment such as the reformer and Cadillac and is taught by expert physiotherapists.
MSO Physio offers 1-2-1 and small group Clinical Pilates and core stability in Sutton with a maximum of four to a class ensuring a personal approach. Our Woking clinic provides 1-2-1 matwork Pilates only.
Matwork Pilates is where it all began. Joseph Pilates first developed the traditional matwork Pilates exercises to help rehabilitate in-patients in hospital who would otherwise be left to their own devices.
He soon developed an extensive series of core stability exercises and defined the core principles of Pilates such as focus, breathing, centring and alignment. This new form of exercise then took off particularly in the world of ballet.
Matwork Pilates is now widely taught and many physiotherapists, including ours at MSO Physio, have undergone additional training to further understand this specific type of training. Extensive research has been conducted looking at the specific muscles involved in Pilates and we are now aware that these same muscles are very important in the management of low back pain, neck pain and various other problems.
Physiotherapists tend to use Clinical Pilates exercises, which are simplified, broken down versions of the original matwork Pilates exercises, then use these as fundamental principles to underpin other forms of training and conditioning.
Pilates during and after pregnancy can greatly help to limit or manage symptoms felt during all of the stages of pregnancy plus during the post-natal phase. Otherwise known as ante and post-natal Pilates or simply pregnancy Pilates, traditional Pilates exercises are adapted for the different stages of pregnancy.
Pre-natally and especially in the third trimester time spent lying on your back is reduced to a minimum and both pre and post-natally great emphasis is placed on engaging abdominals and gluteals to provide as much pelvic control and stability as possible. Pregnancy Pilates can include matwork exercises, small equipment and large equipment such as the Reformer. Each specific exercise is adapted and individualised where required to suit the needs of the person.
At MSO Physio we have physiotherapists who specialise in Pregnancy Pilates and the management of pain and problems associated with pregnancy. Clients will always be seen on an individual basis initially to understand their particular needs and then both 1-2-1 and small group classes are possible under the watchful eye of a specialist physiotherapist.
MSO is happy to offer 1-2-1 and small group Pilates and core stability classes. The expert physiotherapists at MSO Physio have all undergone specific education to deliver Pilates and core stability training to our patients.
Whether it is suggested to you as part of your individual treatment plan or your have come to the clinic specifically for Pilates, you will be thoroughly assessed by one of the physiotherapy team to understand your specific level and requirements of Pilates.
This will then guide you towards either 1-2-1 or small group classes depending on your ability and experience of Pilates and core stability. MSO Physio offers one hour classes for beginners, improvers and more advanced individuals at set times through the week. 1-2-1 sessions are booked just like physiotherapy treatments for either 30 or 60 minutes following initial assessment.
All 1-2-1 or small group Pilates classes are conducted in our dedicated Pilates and rehabilitation studio. The studio has all of the small equipment required for matwork Pilates plus a Reformer for more advanced work.

Nick Wirth provided some very simple and effective exercises for me to do at home and I noticed an improvement immediately. Nick always responded to my queries via email promptly and he suggested enhancements to my recovery plan as I was able to do more. He also recommended an excellent podiatrist for shoe inserts. The team are all very friendly and accommodating. Whilst I hope I don't have to return, if I need physio treatment in future - this is undoubtedly where I would come.
